The Peoples Republic of Dub

Updated: May 16, 2019

Art is interpreted in different ways by different people. For some art is painting, for some its dancing, for some it is makeup. For three lads from Warrington (Billy, Jonny and Danny), their art is electronic music, specifically drum and bass music.

Drum and bass, commonly referred to as D'n'B is a sub genre of electronic music that has branched off the jungle scenes and is synonymous with rave culture. The style of the music is heavily infused with fast break beats, bass and sub-bass lines, sometimes the use of sampled sources, and synthesizers that is formed using computer software and more commonly nowadays.

Due to the boys passion for the genre, constantly listening to the music, attending festivals and club nights dedicated exclusively to D'n'B like it was second nature, it was only logical for them to get involved and create their own club nights dedicated to their favourite type of music. Not only this, they have built their own sound system complete with bass bins, sub woofers and speakers that tower over at above 7 feet tall.

The sound system is an astounding feat of music engineering, that really does fill the room not only with its size, but with the pure volume and bass that is pumped out of its speakers. Sound system culture and drum and bass music is the counter culture that surrounds many young people who want to go against the generic pop music that gets churned out by an army of producers, lyricists and musicians to create a song that sells to a mass audience. Its clear that like the boys of The Peoples Republic of Dub, that this counter culture is about enabling anybody to be successful if they're persistent enough. It is about going against the grain and creating something you are truly passionate about, despite what might be popular.
