Shut Up and Listen to the Music

Manchester is a city known for it's musical history, from The Stone Roses to The Smiths, from Oasis to James it is a place where many a musician dreams to play and create a name for themselves. One man in particular is helping this dream happen. Joe McAdam's is a musician, artist and host of the best nights of music which the city has to offer. However, he has only one rule which is 'Shut the fuck up and listen to the music'. The slogan which adorns the poster to The Whiskey Jar's open mic is one of the first things you will hear Joe say at any of his nights around the city, with him wishing to give the artists the respect of the audience and present an engaged audience with some of the cities most impressive up and coming talent.

Joe's nights of music are incredible nights stacked to the brim with emerging talent showcasing what they have to offer, from soft intricate music over layered with stunning vocals in the case of Sanja Cin or music tinged with comedy in the case of Chris Tavener there is always something for someone who goes down to one of Joe's numerous evenings in the city. From Science and Industry to the Brickhouse Social which is going to be underway very soon the venues which host Joe's evenings are perfect for each night, the rooms often filling quickly.

We sat down with Joe and we discussed music, the open mic nights amongst many other things, the video of which can be found on our website. However, we also went down to the Whisky Jar and experienced what is hailed as Manchester's best open mic night.

Each night at The Whiskey Jar is live-streamed by the Axel from Front Row Manchester and gives access to those who probably couldn't fit in to the packed out room to watch what the artists on the night. Joe is quick to open the night with a track of his own before he introduces each act to the applause, respect and attention Joe wishes to give to every act new or returning to his nights. Below is a short video of our time at the event.

If you wish to go to any of Joe's evenings they run on:
